Bewdley Bike Week & the Big Bike Revival
Thanks to the support of Big Bike Revival, Bewdley Bike Week has been able to run for the last 4 years and is now a firm feature of the local events calendar. This year we ran 6 days of events for the whole family!
We saw the Bewdley Bike Jam, this time at Stourport Sports Club’s fantastic purpose built cycling track. 100s of people came, of all ages, despite the bad weather to enjoy riding a whole variety of bikes from disability trikes to bikes that pedal backwards, from tandems to bikes with 36” wheels. We saw families complete their first ride together, have their precious bikes security marked by the police, get them fixed up by our trained mechanics, all whilst they enjoy pedalling to create a fruit smoothie!
Bewdley Bike Week also hosted several led rides. A 20 miler (19.7miles), beginners led ride was on mainly flat cycle routes or quiet roads and was set out to be a good challenge for families and new comers. Everyone managed to complete the whole route (25 riders) and were very proud of themselves, expressing how they didn’t know our area was so beautiful and how they could cycle so far! Other led rides included an experienced 60 mile ride (not BBR), a ladies specific mountain bike ride, 2 other led mountain bike rides and 2 evening road rides. All were very much enjoyed and well attended, with both new comers and regular riders. Not to mention our family led ride supported by local club Severn Valley Velo taking in beautiful cycle tracks, country roads and an introduction to cycle club life for adults and children a like.
Tuesday was our big Wyre Forest day and what a huge success that was! Countless families descended on our local forest to try out the fantastic family mountain bike trail, try out our demo bikes including child specific Frog bikes, e-bikes and specialist brands. We also had our popular smoothie bike, police security marking, women’s maintenance class and Dr Bike. The highlight of the day were our presentation from public speakers: Super-Cycling Man who cycles the world promoting how everyone can be a super hero (he also grew up in Bewdley!) and 2 world wide cycling explorers (David & Bernie Locke) who also live in Bewdley.
Our Bikeability sessions and learn to rides sessions filled up very quickly as usual and saw over 6 people learn to ride for the first time and 20 pass either there level 1 or level 2 Bikeability tests. All were very proud of themselves!
Ticket to ride – is our fantastic partnership with Severn Valley Railway, in which, by bike families can explore our beautiful countryside and fascinating heritage. Again this always sells out very quickly with people wanting to do it again and again.
