Far Forest Beavers combine cycling and forest school
A beautiful warm September weekend at the Frank Chapman Centre found a rabble of Far Forest Beavers having a great time with Hannah and Forest School Leader Jodie.
Thirty 7-9 year olds and their wonderful scout leaders joined us for a full day of fun at our local adventure centre. All the children took on the hair raising challenge of the Frank Chapman mountain bike trail. They dealt with the steep descents, rocks and roots with huge smiles and laughter. Some even gave the mighty “Heart Attack Hill” a fair crack; an intimidating sight to the most athletic of adults.
Whilst we played bikes at one end of the forest the other side was alive with Forest School activities. The Beavers had trees, sticks, mud and a whole lot of imagination to go wild with! They made multiple huge impressive dens from only natural materials, our Forest School Practitioner Jodie helped them cook marshmallows over their very own fire, and a lot of the other games… but…well only the kids could tell you that. The secret life of children’s creative minds in the woods is one we lowly adults can only admire from a far.
