Summer Clubs at Franche Primary School

Franche Community Primary School run a fantastic range of summer clubs and activities for the school holidays as part of their 726 club (runs 7am-6pm 52 weeks of the year) providing quality activities for those gaps between school and work. The summer holidays are when it really comes to life with multiple day trips to local attractions. For 2017 Open Trail also provided smaller group Forest School sessions where the children have the run of the whole forest with closer staff: pupil ratios and more equipment to explore. A surprise for the children last summer was their cycle coaching sessions, all the equipment was provided by the school, and the excitement around 726 summer escalated from there!

Hannah would so much as approach the entrance to 726 and be greeted with “YES it’s Hannah” then as she opens the door the calls of “are we going cycling?”, “can I go?”, “please, please, please” before Hannah can even say hello there is a line of gleaming faces, clutching water bottles hoping it is their turn to ride.

Over the summer holidays our summer club helped 7 children learnt how to ride for the first time! They’d proudly show off the video of their triumphant success as soon as their parent arrived on site. Followed by “can we take the stabilisers off my bike now? Can we go ride at the park tonight?”

Our newbies cyclists all learnt to ride one handed, to ride standing up, use their brakes and gears. Some joined the already seasoned riders into conquering more advanced skills use as cornering, pedalling efficiency, race techniques, riding as team, and tackling varied terrain.
