Learn to ride

we are the learn to
ride people
Open Trail are locally known as “The Learn to Ride People”. We are highly regarded as the local experts in teaching both children and adults how to ride a bike for the first time.
1:1 public sessions
We provide 1:1 one hour lessons to the public at Stourport Sports Club. These are available in the school holidays. To find out more people email hannah@opentrail.co.uk
In school sessions
It is important to us that every child has the chance to learn to ride a bike. In schools we work with year groups 4 and above, and specialise in SEND provision. Get in touch to find out more.
Balanceability
This program is provided in schools only.
The accredited Foundation Stage ‘Learn to Cycle’ programme for Reception and Year One children. We teach your 4–6-year-olds how to ride whilst developing their physical literacy skills with our fab fleet of balance & first pedal bikes! They’ll hop, jump and skip their way to earning their pedals with a healthy addiction to regular exercise! Many go on to ride standing up, one handed and play racing!
We currently provide Balance ability programs in over 20 schools, with 95% rebooking us year-on-year. All equipment is provided.
For the school
It is fantastic to be able to say “every child in reception can ride a bike” and for some they gain skills that many year 6 pupils would be envious of. Previously, schools have had Ofsted comment on the opportunity to learn to ride in their reports.
For the pupils
It’s a fantastic confidence boost, fills them with pride and is a life skill that once learned won’t be forgotten. Often it’s the ones who struggle academically that excel here so great for their self-esteem too. Our coaches are also experts with SEN pupils and make sure no child is left behind.
For the parents
It’s a huge box ticked! Saves them a lot of backache and frustration, they love how their children are so proud of themselves and desperate to show off their new skills. It’s wonderful seeing pupils run to their adults with arms open for a huge hug saying “I can ride a bike!” and sporting a big shiny sticker to prove it!
Why use us?
At the end of the course each child receives a certificate with a report on how they have done in the course.
On average 90% of children are successful in learning to ride a bike independently. We have them doing games and fun activities on balance bikes and then they progress to their first pedal bike. We even have to divide the groups into ability and have “elite” groups who compete in races, ride one-handed and do team games! At the end of the course each child receives a certificate with a report on how they have done in the course.
‘Bike day’ brings a lot of excitement and fun, it’s one they look forward to all week!
